A MAN has been jailed for several months after he admitted offences of assault, harassment, sending messages with intent to cause distress or anxiety and drink driving.

Richard William Coverson pleaded guilty to multiple charges when he appeared in the dock at Poole Magistrates' Court on January 26.

The court heard that the 44-year-old committed assault by beating offences on January 24 against a woman and a man at an address in Bournemouth.

On the same day he was caught driving a Vauxhall motor vehicle on the Wessex Way with 130 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The defendant, of Bournemouth Road, Poole, sent voicemail messages and a text message on October 20 and November 22 last year which conveyed a threat for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety.

Between October 21, 2021, and January 25, he pursued a course of conduct which amounted to the harassment of a woman, through sending unwanted messages and voicemails.

District Judge Stephen Nicholls committed Coverson to prison for a total of 20 weeks.

Court papers state the judge deemed the offences to be serious in part due to threats being made to the defendant's ex-partner and the assault being in her own home.

Coverson was also disqualified from driving for 38 months and 10 days, which included an extension period to cover the period the defendant will spent behind bars. He received a restraining order, which lasts until January 25, 2025.
