WIMBORNE Minster will mark Her Majesty The Queen's 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne in a special service on Sunday.

During the 9.30am Parish Eucharist in Wimborne Minster special prayers will be included for Her Majesty in honour of her 70th anniversary.

The Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset The Hon Mrs Townshend DL, and the town mayor of Wimborne Minster Cllr Kelly Webb will both be attending and reading the two lessons during the service.

The service will be conducted by the Rector the Revd Canon Andrew Rowland who will also preach the sermon.

Following this, coffee will be served in Church House next to the minster when the Vice Lord-Lieutenant will cut a special cake to mark the occasion.

During the afternoon the minster bell ringers will ring a celebratory peal to mark the significant anniversary.

In 2002 and 2012 special services were held in Wimborne Minster to mark the Golden and Diamond Jubilees but this time the 70th anniversary falls on a Sunday hence the inclusion of special prayers in the Parish Eucharist.

Everyone is welcome to attend and the cutting of the cake will take place around 10.45am.
