A FAMILY-run free house which prides itself on its cosy setting and highly-rated British and European cuisine – The Golden Fox is your Pub of the Week.

Nestled in the countryside outside of Wimborne, the pub was built nearly 40 years ago on outskirts of small village Sturminster Marshall.

Although privately owned by a local farmer, the free house was taken over by Kaspars and Edita Krauja six years and converted the former Hall and Woodhouse pub the Black Horse into The Golden Fox.

Kaspars said: “The pub was built in 1985 on a quiet single-track road surrounded by farms and beautiful Dorset countryside.

“Now we are sitting on a busy single carriageway which will take you all the way to Bristol, bringing commuters and holiday makes from Wales and the North.

“The pub has a large car park just off the main road, a lovely beer garden and large outside space at the front. Its particularly busy in warm weather, business gets enhanced with busy passing trade as well as local custom.”

Located just off the A350, The Golden Fox receives glowing reviews on TripAdvisor and Google for its outstanding food and service.

Their secret? Simple traditional dishes with a strong European influence courtesy of the owner’s Latvian roots.

Kaspars added: “We class ourselves as a food venue and a destination where people can travel to for an excellent food experience, cosy and welcoming atmosphere with a log fire and well-kept local real ale.

“Our most popular dishes would be our German inspired pork schnitzel with champignon cream sauce, bacon and stilton sauce with a chicken fillet, beef klopse with onion cream sauce.

“Also very popular is our Scottish black pudding with potato and onion mash served with red currant sauce; and cured fish platter which includes roll mops herring, garlic and herb marinated anchovies.

“Not to mention our chef's home-made desserts and sorbets. People say there are to 'die for'.”

With an ever-changing specials board and a vast array of drinks including cask ale, wines and spirits, you’d be hard pressed to find a more quaint and idyllic venue for dining out in the Dorset countryside.

Table reservations are advised, especially on weekends and ahead of other popular calendar days as Valentine's Day, Mothering Sunday and Easter Sunday.
