SNOW fans look away now.

If you were hoping February would deliver some snowy scenes across Dorset, you may be disappointed.

Bournemouth-based weather expert Dorset Snow said milder than average conditions are to be expected with no prolonged cold spell likely.

Giving an outlook for next month, Dorset Snow said that overall, there would be below average rainfall with above average temperatures.

The weather enthusiast said there would be “occasional” colder winds during the first two weeks of February.

He said: “Similarly, to the first half of January, the best chance of any wintry precipitation will be during the first 10 days of the month.

“Brief Atlantic ridges may develop during week one and two, delivering short lived colder winds from the northwest.”

Dorset Snow said the lack of colder conditions was due to a positive North Atlantic Oscillation phase which is expected to dominate, along with a strong polar vortex and “unfavourable” Madden-Julian Oscillation.

He said the end of the month would bring more unsettled and "very mild" conditions.

He added: “High pressure is generally expected to stay close to the UK throughout the month, but may slowly retreat towards the end of the month.

“This means that more unsettled and very mild conditions are possible during week three and four.

“This month is expected to be windier than January with a higher risk of spells of rain. Generally still drier than average though.”
