Bournemouth Airport hosts recruitment day for 75 new jobs

The airport, which currently employs around 230 people, held the open day at the main terminal on from 2pm to 8pm in a bid to fill a host of roles.

Titles for available jobs include air traffic safety electronic personnel, airside ramp services agent, customer service agent and cleaner.

HR manager Michelle Hill said: “We are looking for approximately 75 people in total for a mixture of permanent and part time summer roles. These are for ground handling, security, passenger services and some cleaning positions as well.

“We’ve had more [people] than we were expecting which is great and that’s following quite an extensive social media campaign which has attracted a lot of interest.

“Generally, what we’re looking for is mainly permanent roles to get up to our normal manning, as we’ve been running at slightly lower than normal because of the pandemic. It’s a natural uplift for summer but also just to get us up to our normal operations for any time of year.

“We need people as quick as possible and that’s different to every other year because everybody is competing for the same people.”

As well as hopefuls sending their details and CV’s online, some walk-in interviews took place on site during the open day – with those invited to a second stage interview returning next week.

Michelle added that roles in passenger services, i.e. check in desk, and security were among the most popular among visitors during the jobs fair.

The increase in jobs within ground handling has in part been necessary due to the sites rapidly increasing presence as a freight aircraft port. Additional staffing will allow the airport to “expand” on these operations.
