A CHRISTCHURCH school is celebrating after an Ofsted inspection saw them go from inadequate to good.

Students, parents and staff across The Grange School are celebrating the report, which grades them 'good' in all areas.

The two-day visit which took place last year was the first full inspection since the school was judged to be inadequate in March 2018.

Head of school, Liz Garman, is praised for her work since joining the school soon after the 2018 inspection.

Particular strengths of the school centre around the curriculum with teachers described as “following detailed curriculum plans and using assessment well to help them plan pupils’ learning.”

It is recognised that students follow “a broad curriculum that includes a broad range of subjects” and that “pupils are learning well.”

Mrs Garman said: “What is most pleasing is that the report accurately captures the school I see every day.

"Of course, the curriculum is crucial and results for students make an enormous difference to their futures, but equally important for me is that the report recognises the calm and friendly character of the school where pupils feel safe and secure.

“Parents want their child to attend a school where young people behave well and which provides their children with a range of additional opportunities.

"The inspection highlights the respect our students have for each other and the clubs and events that we run; including the impact of the new school choir and the Twynham TGS DNA which is our character curriculum.”

Under the new arrangements which saw The Grange and Twynham join forces with their teams and structures, headteacher of Twynham School, Jy Taylor, has taken on responsibility for both schools.

The inspection report said: "The executive headteacher and the head of school work together very effectively. They have improved the school quickly while keeping a close eye on staff well-being.”

Mr Taylor said: “I am so pleased that the hard work and efforts of so many staff, including Liz, has been recognised by the publication of this report.

"The Grange School is a good school and having this confirmed by Ofsted allows our students, their parents and our staff to rightly be proud of the school."

He added: "This report represents the start and not the end of a journey."
