TWO drivers have been reported to court after accelerating up to 90mph, tailgating and “demonstrating aggressive driving”.

Officers from the Dorset Police No Excuse caught the Ford ST and Mazda on the Dorset Way in Poole.

A spokesperson said: “The white Fiesta ST was travelling at around the 50mph speed limit in lane two of the Dorset Way, even though lane one was empty.

“A speeding blue Mazda estate caught up with it and drove too close, wanting to pass.

“The driver of the ST responded by accelerating away to over 90mph. The Mazda driver returned to lane one, then also accelerated to over 90mph.

“The unmarked police car behind them accelerated, too.

“When the vehicles arrived at Mannings Heath roundabout, both drivers behaved badly, braking, tailgating and swerving their way around the roundabout, swapping positions and demonstrating aggressive driving.

“No Excuse officers stopped both vehicles and reported the drivers to court for speeding and driving without care and attention.

“The escalating danger which took place here as these drivers reacted and goaded each other in perceived ‘competition’ was so unnecessary.

“Clearly, they risked the safety of all road users present and could easily have ended in tragedy, in such close proximity to too many recent tragedies.”
