Daily Echo archive photo of the construction of the new Club House for Pontin’s Holiday Park on the banks of the River Stour in Christchurch back in 1963.
Since the late 1940s there has been a holiday camp at the location in Christchurch and in 1962 Fred Pontin purchased the site and after a lengthy planning battle was given permission to redevelop the site to include the pictured club house and over two hundred self-catering accommodations.
The camp closed in 1995 and was later demolished. The Captain’s Club Hotel & Spa now stands on the site which was built in 2002.
Do you have any memories of the holiday park?
