THE development company running the Winter Gardens project has confirmed that other plans for the site are being considered.

Bournemouth Development Company (the joint venture partnership between BCP Council and Muse Developments, a Morgan Sindall Group company) recently demolished the site on Exeter Road to make way for the new Winter Gardens scheme.

However, BCP Council's recently created FuturePlaces urban regeneration company was given the site on a list of 15 development opportunities - which could see Winter Gardens linked with the Bournemouth International Centre.

FuturePlaces has been tasked with looking into the potential for the sites and bringing forward plans to redevelop them.

A spokesperson for Bournemouth Development Company said: “We are committed to supporting the council’s Big Plan in making Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole one of the best coastal destinations in the UK.

“This particular site sits within Bournemouth’s exciting main visitor destination experience, stretching along the coastal arc that runs from the BIC in the west through to Westover Road in the east.

“The delivery of the scheme which has planning permission is amongst a number of options being considered to ensure a world class development in this prime town centre location is achieved.

“All partners involved are committed to creating a scheme which we can all be proud of for the long term.

“In the meantime we are also working together on opportunities for temporary use which makes best use of this great space.”

Planning permission has already been granted for the £150 million Winter Gardens development which if progressed would see more than 350 flats, 600 parking spaces and new leisure and retail space.
