IT all began in 1909 when girls and young women demanded to take part in similar activities to the already popular Boy Scout movement.

To begin with the clubs were run in different ways. Some of the girls attempted to join scout groups and some of the clubs became mixed.

The World Association of Girl Guides was formed in 1928 and brought more uniformity to the movement.

There are now Girl Guide groups in 145 different countries with more than 10 million members across the globe.
