THERE’S nothing like a festive film to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Everyone has a favourite whether it’s Home Alone, Love Actually or It’s a Wonderful Life.

Screenings of Christmas classics and new favourites are taking place all over Dorset in the run-up to the festive season.

If you’re looking for something to give you some much-needed Christmas magic, here’s what’s happening across Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch.

It’s a Wonderful Life comes to Lighthouse at 6.30pm on December 18 and 22 and 7pm on December 23. James Stewart stars as George Bailey, a suicidal businessman helped by an angel called Clarence to see what life would have been like if he’d never been born.  A dementia-friendly screening also takes place on December 23 at 1.30pm.

A Boy Called Christmas is being shown at Poole’s Lighthouse on December 18 and 21 at 3.30pm, December 22 at 4pm and 4.30pm on December 23. The film, in which an ordinary young boy called Nikolas sets out on an extraordinary adventure into the snowy north, stars Jim Broadbent, Maggie Smith, Toby Jones, Sally Hawkins and Kristen Wiig.

Family favourite Home Alone starring Macaulay Culkin is being shown at Bournemouth's Odeon cinema on various dates in the run-up to Christmas including December 1, 2, 4 and 5. 

Michael Caine plays the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge in A Muppet Christmas Carol which comes to the Odeon on December 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 and on selected dates later in the month. 

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas will be screened at the Odeon on December 3, 4 and 5 and then again on December 13 and 14. 

Meanwhile, The Polar Express will be shown at the Odeon on December 4 and 5. 

Ron Howard’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas starring Jim Carrey will be shown at the Regent Centre in Christchurch on December 8 at 12pm. Then on December 11 and 12, the venue will screen Arthur Christmas at 11.30am.

Cineworld in Poole will be showing a feast of fetive films including The Nightmare Before Christmas on December 7, Elf on December 14, It's A Wonderful Life on December 20 and Die Hard on December 21.
