HEAVY winds have left Twin Sails Bridge unable to be lifted with the council confirming it is “highly likely” the issues will continue into the weekend.

BCP Council has said the bridge in Poole would be running to a revised timetable over the weekend after high winds caused technical problems on the afternoon of Friday, November 26.

In a Twitter post at 1.50pm on Friday, the authority said “Twin Sails Bridge is currently unable to be lifted.

“Our bridge operators will be reviewing the wind conditions throughout the day.”

It has since been confirmed that issues are expected to continue in the coming days amid a yellow weather warning with wind speeds of up to 60mph predicted in parts of the south west.

A BCP Council spokesperson said: “Due to staff shortages and anticipated high wind conditions, the Twin Sails Bridge in Poole will be running to a revised timetable this weekend.

“We will be lifting both bridges between 8.30am – 5.30pm on Saturday November 27 and Sunday 28. After these times bridge control will be unmanned.

“At present, there is a yellow weather warning for high winds from today running into tomorrow meaning its highly likely that Twin Sails Bridge will be unable to raise at certain times.
