A ONE lane closure in Christchurch will be in place for another week due to emergency repairs on a collapsed sewer.

Long delays were reported after the closure of Bargates, leading to tailbacks in Fairmile Road and surrounding routes on Tuesday, November 23.

Wessex Water has said the road remains closed inbound from Stour Road to Fountain Way for repairs.

A spokesperson said: “We’re installing temporary overland pipework to ensure no interruption to customers’ sewerage services, with a one-way closure in place until December 3 so we can do this safely.

“We’re sorry for any traffic delays caused by this emergency repair. Our team are working extended hours to try to minimise disruption.”

This comes one week after a section of the nearby Barrack Road was closed also because of a collapsed sewer.

Wessex Water added the two incidents were not related.
