A “SELFLESS” man died after experiencing a “speed wobble” and coming off his motorbike on the Dorset Way in March.

Joshua Aaron Cartlidge, 21, of Warbarrow Gardens, Poole, died on March 15 after a single vehicle crash on the A3049 between the Oakdale sliproad and the Tower Park roundabout.

The inquest into his death was held at Bournemouth Town Hall on Friday, October 8.

A statement provided by his mum Heidi described the bus driver as a “very talented young man” and a “much loved son”.

Summarising her statement, Dorset coroner Rachael Griffin said: “It’s very clear to me how close he was to all his family, faith was very important to Mr Cartlidge.

“He was very creative musically, he loved to travel. He had passed his driving and bike tests and enjoyed being on the road.”

Mr Cartlidge had been socialising with his friends in Sandbanks on the evening of March 15, and left in the direction of Bournemouth with friends following in a Ford Fiesta.

PC Dave Cotterill said in a statement the 21-year-old accelerated to speeds around 80mph, experienced a speed wobble and came off the bike.

The inquest heard how Mr Cartlidge held a valid licence to ride the motorcycle, provided it had a power restrictor – which was not turned on at the time of the crash.

His friend in the Ford Fiesta described him as taking “unnecessary risks” and the bike being “out of control”.

PC Cotterill’s working hypothesis was Mr Cartlidge was riding a motorcycle he did not have a licence for and he lost control from “harsh acceleration”.

Recording a conclusion, Ms Griffin said: “He was a much loved young man by all those around him.

“He was also a selfless man, giving his time to help others.

“He was travelling in lane one of the A3049 heading towards Tower Park roundabout. He lost control, it has been described as a speed wobble.

“That resulted in him becoming separated from his motorcycle, very sadly he sustained unsurvivable injuries.

“He was not under the influence of any substances and I want to confirm no involvement of a third party.

“I am satisfied, on the balance of probabilities, Mr Cartlidge died as a result of a road traffic collision.”
