DEVELOPERS want to build two additional floors of accommodation on a site already approved for six apartments.

Spruce Town Planning had permission granted in February this year to construct six apartments on top of existing buildings in Bournemouth Road, Poole.

Another application has now been sent to planning officials requestion permission to construct two additional floors comprising of twelve flats.

A design statement submitted as part of the application said: “The application seeks prior approval for the construction of two additional storeys of accommodation on each block to provide six new apartments to each, making twelve in total.

“The scheme is an alternative scheme to the previously approved application proposing two extra storeys rather than one.

“As in the previous scheme the new third and fourth floor accommodation will be set in from the lower floors so that the massing of the buildings reduces at that new upper level.

“The proposals will add another twelve apartments to the site creating a total of 36 apartments on the site overall.”

The application said the extensions have been designed to respect the appearance of existing buildings.

It added: “The extensions will be finished in brick to match the lower floors and therefore there can be no suggestion that the works would not now be respectful of the local character.

“The development will not result in harm to any trees of high visual amenity value. The proposed site plan demonstrates that the development will maintain ample space for the retention of soft landscaping around the altered buildings.

“The proposals are sustainable for the following reasons: The proposals will provide twelve new homes which are of an appropriate design and will respond well to the character of the area, whilst being accessible to local services.

“The proposals preserve the character and appearance of the area and the setting of the nearby heritage asset.

“The proposals use land efficiently by creating additional homes in a highly accessible location.

“It is therefore considered that the planning justifications and design rationale identified in this Planning Statement demonstrate that the proposed development is acceptable.”
