A RECYCLING centre in Bournemouth was temporarily closed to the public this afternoon following the discovery of a suspected “explosive” device.

Dorset Police cordoned off Millhams Community Recycling Centre at 1.19pm on Sunday October 3 before Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts arrived on the scene.

The ordnance device was found not to be explosive, and the cordon was lifted at around 3pm.

A police spokesman said: “Dorset Police received a report at 1.19pm on Sunday October 3 that a possible explosive device had been found in the area of the Millhams Community Recycling Centre off Ringwood Road in Bournemouth.


“The site was closed to the public and officers attended to put a cordon in place pending the arrival of Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts.


“The EOD team confirmed the item found was not explosive and the cordon was lifted at around 3pm.”
