BCP Council has launched a new scheme to tackle issues with weeds following "ongoing growth".

On September 9, the authority allocated weed treatment resources to manage the vegetation in Poole town centre, which could lead to the roll-out of a bigger campaign across the conurbation.

“A number of our team are currently weeding in Poole town centre to help manage the ongoing growth there,” said BCP Council leader Drew Mellor.

“This falls under our cleaner, greener, safer campaign, to bring back pride to our towns.”

Cllr Mellor added that at the end of the month the Cabinet will consider whether the campaign should continue next year across the conurbation.

He said: “At the end of September, the Cabinet will consider a proposed investment of 3.8m for this campaign to continue next year with three key themes in mind: town centre refresh pilots, conurbation-wide investment, and community and business clean, green, safe partnerships and volunteering.

“Our big plan clearly sets out our desire to be one of the best coastal places in the world to live, work, invest and play and it is great that our cleaner, greener, safer programme really underpins so many of our strategic aims.”
