IN HER letter (Letters, Sept 8), Catherine Taylor implies that BCP Council is run by lycra-clad cycling maniacs, hell-bent on turning the world she inhabits upside down.

In reality, the council’s ‘Transforming Travel’ schemes to improve cycling and walking provision are modest, though welcome, interventions in a town that is ranked the fourth most congested in the UK (according to 2019 TomTom figures).

This congestion isn’t caused by bikes, by the way.

It never ceases to amaze me that despite the fact that cars – not bikes or pedestrians – cause noise and air pollution (including significant greenhouse gas emissions), congestion, the destruction of the precious green spaces we have left, and almost all road fatalities, some drivers – here emphasising ‘some’ – will never accept any responsibility for the consequences of unchecked car-driving.
