POOLE Hospital Cancer Treatment Trust have marked their 50th anniversary with a donation of two new scanners for the hospital.
The Trust was formed nearly 50 years ago by Marjorie Lewis Manning to raise funds to purchase equipment for Poole Hospital to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of all forms of cancer.
During those 50 years the charity has purchased many items large and small including CT scanners, MRI scanners and ultrasound machines.
Poole Hospital Cancer Treatment Trust chairman Stuart Dean said: “We have now contributed £500,000 towards the redevelopment programme in the Nuclear Medicine Department, providing two new SPEC/CT Scanners and alterations to provide a more relaxed atmosphere for both patients and staff in the department.
“The scanners have been named Marie and Louis after the pasteurs.
“A formal opening by Guy Henry from the TV series Holby City and the Chief Executive Debbie Fleming will take place later in the year.”
In addition, the charity joined up with the Rotary Club of Poole to buy a bladder scanner for the children’s unit in Poole Hospital.
The cancer trust operates separately from the hospital and its charities and could not support the hospital without the generous support of the residents of Poole and the wider area of Dorset.
“The charity looks forward to their continued support in the future together with any fundraising ideas in which they wish to become involved for the benefit of the Poole Hospital Cancer Treatment Trust,” Stuart added.
