BCP Council has awarded a contract to process household, commercial and litter bin waste more sustainably to a company based in Poole.

New Earth Solutions have been handed the work which covers 48,000 tonnes of waste from 110,000 properties across the Bournemouth and Christchurch area.

Councillor Mark Anderson, portfolio holder for the environment, cleansing and waste, said: “I am delighted that New Earth Solutions have been awarded this contract that was evaluated for both environmental quality and value for money.

“We are passionate about creating a sustainable environment, and this contract will help the council meet its declared zero carbon climate and ecological emergency targets.”

New Earth Solutions extract metals and a compost like output from the waste.

The remainder is then processed into a refuse derived fuel which is sent to an energy from waste facility in Somerset.

Brian McCabe, CEO of the owners of New Earth Solutions, said: “We are delighted to be able to continue our relationship with BCP, providing them with sustainable, carbon friendly and circular solutions for managing their waste.”

The new contract will run for three years from September 1 this year with an option to extend for a further three years.
