AN air ambulance scrambled to the rescue of a person during a major emergency response at a popular tourist hotspot in south Dorset.

Kimmeridge Coastguard along with Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team, and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were called around 11am this morning to Lulworth Cove to help an injured person.

The major emergency response saw the rescue of the person who was taken to hospital.

A spokesman from Kimmeridge Coastguard said: "At 11:13am we were tasked to assist our colleagues at Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team with a medical emergency on the beach at Lulworth Cove.

"Along with South Western Ambulance Service, the on-call coastguard duty senior officer and Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance were also on scene.

"The person was stretcher carried to the ambulance and transported by road to hospital.

"With teams ensuring the safe departure of the helicopter we then returned to station to log the incident, update the system and make ready all equipment for any further callouts.

"Special thanks goes to the staff of Lulworth Estate and members of public that helped us today."
