A STEAMSHIP will mark 30 years of preservation at sea with a sailing to Poole on bank holiday Monday.

Shieldhall first sailed with guests under the management of the Solent Steam Packet Charity in the summer of 1991, following her acquisition from Southern Water in 1988.

She has starred in a number of TV documentaries including Robbie Coltranes ‘Coltranes, Planes and Automobiles’, Timeshift’s ‘The People’s Liners: Britain’s Lost Pleasure Fleet’ and numerous Titanic based programmes, as Shieldhall has many nautical connections – albeit on a smaller scale – with the White Star Liner.

Shieldhall’s 30th anniversary of preservation ‘at sea’ will be marked with the help of Shieldhall’s in-house jazz band, The Shieldhall Stompers.

The one-way trip to Poole will see Shieldhall say hello to the cruise ships in Southampton Docks, before passing down Southampton Water, into the western Solent past Hurst Castle and The Needles, before steaming past Hengistbury Head and The Old Harry Rocks.

Shieldhall will then enter Poole Harbour, seeing Sandbanks and Brownsea Island at close quarters.

Tickets for this six hour trip (10am – 4pm) can be purchased online at: https://ss-shieldhall.co.uk/booking/one-way-trip-to-poole/
