A YOUNG girl from Poole has raised hundreds of pounds after chopping off 13 inches of hair.

Oakdale Junior pupil Robyn, nine, raised £700 for Little Princess Trust by having her long locks chopped last week.

The charity provides free real hair wigs to children and young people (up to the age of 24) who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

After learning about the work of the charity, Robyn was keen to show her support.

Mum Samantha Peacocke said: "She is a really helpful and kind girl. Robyn didn't grow her hair out specifically to do this but she wanted to have her hair cut really short.

"I said to her there are charities that take hair and we looked them up together. She was really excited by the idea and it propelled her to have more hair cut off to give as much as she can."

Robyn had her hair cut on Tuesday, August 17 at at So Hair and Tanning Salon in Ashley Road.

Salon owner and close friend Sally Holloway was the one to take up the mantle and cut Robyn's hair, with her family watching the epic chop happen.

Samantha said: "Robyn absolutely loved it - she couldn't wait to get it cut and see it. Sally has been our friend since Robyn was a few weeks old, so she found it hard to cut her hair off.

"All of us watching had an "oh no" moment but Robyn couldn't wait to have it done. My mum starting crying as she was so happy and proud of her.

"Robyn got really excited when she could see how short her hair was. She looks so grown up now."

Along with donating 13 inches of hair, Robyn raised £700, £150 over her £550 target, which is how much it costs the charity to manufacture a wig.

Samantha said: "Robyn has raised £700 which is absolutely amazing. She wanted to be able to say that she had managed to get a wig made. I did not expect her to raise this amount of money.

"I am extremely proud, so are all of our family and our friends."
