A FIRE which started after a candle set some curtains alight was put out by a passer by.
Firefighters from Wareham Fire Station were called to the scene at a property in Lulworth after the candles caught a curtain on fire.
A passer by noticed the flames and was able to act quickly to put out the fire.
A spokesman for Wareham Fire Station said: "One fire engine was sent to an address at Lulworth, due to some candles catching a curtain on fire.
"A passerby saw the flames and acted quickly and saved the day. Please be careful when you’re using candles."
The Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service's advice is to make sure candles are secured in a candle holder and away from anything that could catch fire, like curtains or ornaments. Not to burn lots of candles close together, as this may cause a larger flame, and not to move them once lit.
It also advises to not leave candles unattended, put out candles, incense or oil burners when you leave the room, never leave children or pets alone with burning candles and make sure all candles are out before going to bed.
