POLICE were called by a frightened couple who were alerted to a man squirting tomato ketchup at a home in Bournemouth.

The resident, who has asked to remain anonymous, said she was alerted by her Ring video doorbell system.

“It was just gone 1am and I always keep the phone next to my bed and it alerted me that there was a person at the front door because we’ve got a Ring doorbell,” she said.

“I immediately put it on camera, saw a strange person at the front door and at the time it looked like he was hitting the Ring doorbell,” she added.

“So I woke up my husband and by the time we’d actually got out of bed, there were two great big bangs on the window.

“We came downstairs and turned on all the lights as you do and we were watching the video and we could see that they had obviously disappeared.

“When we opened the front door we could see that the Ring doorbell had been completely obliterated in tomato ketchup from top to bottom all the way down the wall and that had stopped it working,” she said.

“We didn’t know if it was someone who had disabled the camera, thrown eggs at the wall and thought ‘Well if there’s no response from the house, we’ll come back in an hour and rob it’ and we’ve got children in the property so we didn’t sleep properly that night.”

The incident happened in Milton Road, Charminster.

“We did call the police because we didn’t know if they were going to come back, we have got video footage of them but obviously they were disguised so it wasn’t a lot of use.

“There was an incident a few months ago where we caught somebody on the doorbell coming up the drive, checking the doors and looking around the area with a torch, the area has been really bad.”

Dorset Police confirmed that at 1.28am on Friday, July 30, they received a report that a man had approached a property in Milton Road in Bournemouth and squirted tomato ketchup at it.

Police said no arrests have been made.
