IT HAS taken a while but at last the BCP Council appear to have got a grip on what is causing major problems at the beach.

Forget lycra clad tour de France wannabes speeding on bikes along the promenade whilst listening to head phone music oblivious to pedestrians and beach hut users.

No major issues with e-scooters, some with two people on board speeding with no insurance or helmets causing a danger to small children running from the beach huts.

The real danger now identified and highlighted in the Echo is deckchairs.

These difficult to open pieces of beach furniture are according to the council capable of being weaponised. I can think of nothing more frightening than being attacked by someone in possession of a deckchair.  However, fear not as the council state that the wellbeing and safety of our staff, residents and visitors was a priority in this decision.

I am not sure of the statistics as to how many people have been attacked by a deckchair wielding yob but no doubt we will know by the end of the season.  Might I suggest that as a comfort for visitors the illuminated signs that will be in position for the air show might say that the beach is a deckchair free zone to make the visitors feel more comfortable whilst in town.
