NEW flats have been approved by council planners at a number of locations in the BH9 area of Bournemouth.

The latest approved planning applications include a two storey block of 7 flats at 108B Wimborne Road; Landscaping details for an already approved outline application for five flats at 212 Castle Lane West; A prior approval agreement for two additional floors at Athena House, 612-616 Wimborne Road to add an additional four flats.

BCP planners have also approved the demolition of existing buildings at 609-615 Wimborne Road followed by the building of a three storey building with seven flats fronting Wimborne Road and a house fronting Midland Road, with the relocation of a public footpath to the south of the site.

An application for alterations and the building of a three storey block with 13 units at 379-383 Wimborne Road has been refused.

A decision notice issued by the council says the proposal: “would, by reason of the siting, excessive scale, layout, and poor design of the extension block, result in an incongruous and out-of-keeping form of cramped, congested, contrived and stark development that would be detrimental to the character and appearance of the area.”

The application suggested that the block would be used for student accommodation.
