A MAJOR Dorset road will be closed for 'emergency repairs to a surface defect' later today.
After some confusion, Dorset Council has confirmed that the A31 is not yet closed but will be closed in both directions between A35 Shell Roundabout, Bere Regis, and A350 Roundhouse Roundabout, Sturminster Marshall from this evening.
The council initially said that the road was already closed but it has since come to light that it will not be closed until later today.
A spokesman for Dorset Council said: "The A31 is not yet closed, it will be shut later this evening after rush hour when Highways England mobilise their resources.
"Highways England have confirmed to me that emergency repairs are required to resolve a surface defect."
