A 27-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested on suspicion of assault a police officer in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Officers were initially called to The Nightjar on Victoria Road, Ferndown, to reports of a fight outside the Wetherspoons pub.

Three men were arrested on suspicion on affray and have since been released under investigation.

However, during the confrontation, a female officer was concussed after reportedly lifted and dropped onto the ground. She also sustained whiplash and an injured shoulder.

Another female officer sustained an injury to her elbow.

A spokesman from Dorset Police said: “Dorset Police was called at around 12.20am on Saturday August 14 to a report of a fight outside The Nightjar on Victoria Road in Ferndown.

“Officers attended in order to disperse the group. There were no reports of any serious injuries sustained by members of the public involved in the alleged fight.

“Two 24-year-old men from Ferndown were arrested on suspicion of affray. A 20-year-old man from Ringwood was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating and affray.

“They have all been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

“During the incident, it is reported that a female police officer was picked up and thrown onto the floor.

“She sustained an injury to her shoulder, whiplash and concussion and attended hospital for treatment.

“A second female police officer was reportedly pushed to the head and sustained a minor injury to her elbow.

“A 27-year-old man from Wimborne was arrested on suspicion of assault by beating of an emergency worker. He has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.”
