AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after police in Bournemouth stopped a "young person" seen riding a suspected stolen bike.

Officers were carrying out patrols of the Lower Gardens, Pier Approach and the Square yesterday evening as part of Operations Relentless and Fireglow.

During these patrols, police handed out a dispersal notice to person spotted cycling on the stolen bicycle and took him home to his parents.

Two other “young persons” were also taken back home to their guardians due to anti-social behaviour in the town.

A spokesman from Bournemouth Police said: “Officers from Bournemouth South, North and East NPT's and Special Constables were out on hi-visibility patrols within the Lower Gardens, Pier Approach and the Square on Saturday evening as part of Operation Relentless and Operations Fireglow.

“During the shift, officers issued a dispersal notice to a young person riding a suspected stolen bike.

“He was returned home to his parents and the bike was retained and will shortly be returned to its owner.

“An investigation is still ongoing into the stolen bike.

“Two further young persons were returned to their guardian because of their actions and behaviour in the Lower Gardens.

“Officers will continue to tackle anti-social behaviour within the town centre and safeguard young persons.”
