MORE than 500 people across Dorset have tested positive for coronavirus within the last 24-hour period - bringing the total number of cases above 56,000.

The latest Government figures show 514 people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the county in the 24 hours leading up to 4pm on Friday, August 13.

In the Dorset Council area, 210 new cases were reported. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 18,616 cases confirmed across this area.

The rolling seven-day period, which is up to Monday, August 9, for the Dorset Council area is 1,198 cases, with a case rate of 315.4 per 100,000 people.

The BCP Council has seen 304 new cases recorded across the BCP Council area. The total number of coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic is now 37,893.

The rolling seven-day period for the BCP is 1,912 cases, with a case rate of 481.6 per 100,000 people.

During the course of the coronavirus pandemic, there have been 56,509 cases of Covid-19 confirmed across Dorset.

Today's new figures show an increase on the 374 coronavirus cases confirmed across Dorset on Friday (August 13).

Elsewhere, the New Forest area recorded 66 new coronavirus cases. The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic stands within the New Forest at 9,485.

The seven-day rolling rate for New Forest area is 481 with a case rate of 267.7 per 100,000 people.
