THE man who died after being hit by a train on Monday has been formally identified.

Barry Clive Heath, 73, of Wareham, died on the railway tracks near Gatemore Road on Monday, August 9.

His inquest into the death of the retired security specialist opened at Bournemouth Town Hall on Friday.

Coroner’s officer Nigel Underwood said: “Police were called following reports of an incident on the railway line.

“Police, paramedics and the British Transport Police all attended, gentleman was confirmed dead at the scene.

“British Transport Police are continuing their enquiries confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances or third-party involvement.”

A post-mortem carried out at Holly Tree Lodge in Boscombe found his medical cause of death was multiple injuries.

Senior coroner for Dorset, Rachael Griffin, adjourned the hearing for a pre-inquest review on December 9.

Ms Griffin requested statements from Mr Heath’s family, his GP, the British Transport Police and his pathologist.

After the incident, a spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “British Transport Police were called to the line near Wool, Dorset, at 1.47pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are working to identify the deceased and inform their next of kin.

“This incident is not being treated as suspicious.”
