CHANGES are being sought to a West Cliff hotel to use part of the ground floor as a restaurant – together with the creation of an outdoor seating area.

An application says that if successful it hopes to serve 1,400 people each week and will create six full-time and three part-time jobs.

A planning application has been lodged with BCP Council for the BH Central Hotel, in the Westbourne and West Cliff ward. The hotel has previously been known as the Cluny Lodge Hotel and the Kiwi Hotel.

The proposals include a beige fabric canopy over the front door of the building and umbrellas in the same colour with the Sea Breeze restaurant logo for the outside seating area which will be on the West Cliff Road side of the corner site. The application says “The proposal seeks minimal alterations to the facade in order to give the new restaurant its own identity, separate from the hotel.”

A new pedestrian access is being proposed along the northern frontage of the site from West Cliff Road to reach the outdoor seating area.to bring it level to the entrance door at the access point for wheelchair users.

The application says that the terrace at the front has previously been used by the hotel, but will be improved, with decking

A planning application says that the ground floor of the hotel is currently not in use and that the kitchen was use by residents. It says a new kitchen for residents will be provided upstairs as part of the changes.

Comments on the proposal can be made via the council’s website, or in writing, by September 10th.
