Southcoast Living has been established since 1979 in Bournemouth and specialises in mobility equipment, household furniture, new and used beds, and reconditioned appliances.

The Boscombe shop

For about five years the business has been based in the Sovereign Centre in Boscombe but has recently branched out and expanded its offering by opening a shop in Winton.

Owner Eileen Millington-Bates said: "During lockdown, it had been really tough for us, so we have been helped by getting ourselves on social media and selling things on marketplace during lockdown so customers could still get what they need.

"We have seen that Winton is quite up and coming and there are good vibes there. There are lots of students and a big rental market in the area and Winton has become a good place to be.

"We saw the shop and thought it was a good place for another shop. The shop has been open for five weeks.

"Business in Winton has been a bit slow going as people are are still being a bit hesitant. We're hoping now that people might come and visit."

Southcoast Living offers a range of furniture and appliances, affordable beds and mattresses as well as antique pieces.

The business also stocks mobility high rise chairs, new and used.

The mobility range has proven to be very popular and can be delivered on the same day of purchasing.

But for Eileen, it is the special services offered that sets the business apart.

She said: "A lot of the shop's customers get same day delivery. For example, if you buy a mattress online, you may have to wait six to eight weeks but we have lots of mattresses in stock so can deliver on the same day, Monday to Saturday.

"Also, if you order something from Southcoast Living such as a mattress, we will deliver your new one and take your old one away free of charge. If possible, we will repair your old appliances and homewares to then sell on again.

"Taking away the old items ourselves makes everything a really smooth transaction.

"Southcoast Living has a great community feel with lots of loyal customers, but we want fresh customers as well."

Southcoast Living's premises in the Sovereign Centre, Boscombe is open from 9am to 5.30pm.

The new Winton shop is open from 8am to 5pm and can be found at 422-424 Wimborne Road.

The Winton store has customer parking offered to the rear of the store in Kemp Road.

Southcoast Living also has a 20 per cent sale on all new beds, with this offer running all month until August 31.
