LOCAL beach restaurants have been praised as “pioneering” skin protection by a national cancer charity.

Bournemouth and Boscombe seafront restaurants Westbeach, Aruba’s Sunset Beach Bar and Urban Reef have been praised by the charity Melanoma UK for offering customers and staff free LifeJacket Skin Protection sunscreen this summer through automatic sunscreen dispensers.

Urban Reef and Westbeach customers are invited to use the indoor hands-free automatic dispensers which provide factor 50 sun cream.

I want to do all I can to protect others"

LifeJacket Skin Protection is a high-performing SPF brand manufactured in Poole.

Gill Nuttall, Melanoma UK’s CEO said: “Mounting research shows that too many of us are not protecting our skin adequately against sun damage and cancer.

“The restaurants, pubs and bars with the foresight to offer their customers and staff free skin protection deserve recognition for pioneering change.”

Andy Price, owner of Westbeach and Aruba, said: “Bournemouth is an innovative resort in so many ways, and now it becomes the UK’s first beach to provide people with free skin protection to enjoy the sun safely. Our customers can enjoy great food and service on a world-class beach, and now with added skin protection in the sun.”

Mark Cribb, owner of Urban Reef said: “As someone who has had a run-in with skin cancer, I want to do all I can to protect others. I’m all for supporting brands such as LifeJacket which make a difference in the fight against cancer.”
