A DONATION of £1,000 has helped children at a Bournemouth primary school improve their outdoor learning.

The generous donation was made to Queens Park Infant Academy by local business JP Morgan to show the importance of play alongside work.

The money donated by the company has helped the school to purchase interlocking scooters and paddles and a den building set for the children to enjoy.

Deputy Head of the school, Fran Blanchard said: "We have been able to purchase interlocking scooters and the paddles they come with are working and developing the children’s arm muscles and coordination without them realising.

"The den building set we also bought is completely open ended. Children are challenged to create their own structures.

"The teamwork involved in getting a den to stand up has sometimes been difficult but the problem solving has been great.

"Hearing them talking and working together as a team to make things work and the pride in their achievement when they succeed is amazing."

Both resources were chosen to promote the enjoyment of outdoor learning in a creative way whilst also encouraging physical development.

Andy Hayes, on behalf of the J.P. Morgan Community Relations Committee, said: "We know how important outdoor play can be when placed alongside the learning that takes place in the classroom.

"We were delighted to be able to help in this way."
