The Nelson Tavern prides itself on being family and dog friendly and offers fantastic food, which comes as no surprise as owners Joe Carlo and Hayley Toomer are award-winning chefs.

Joe said: "We are a really nice gastro pub that offers modern food with a twist.

"We have fresh fish, meat and award-winning food. The fisherman drink here so we get our fish straight here.

"The food we offer is great."

Beach huts, booths, games and a wide selection of drinks are also on the menu.

Joe said: "We have a huge selection of real ales and lagers and have a great bar trade. We have fine wines and too many gins!"

Customers can enjoy their beverage in the pub's "beautiful" beer garden which was refurbished in 2019.

Speaking to the Echo in 2020, Hayley said: "We had a garden refurbishment last year, which the locals and visitors to Mudeford love.

"Fortunately we have a large garden and restaurant, so people who come to The Nelson Tavern feel comfortable."

The pub's prime location also makes it a popular choice with visitors and residents alike.

Joe said: "The pub has been around since the 1700s. We are just around the corner from beach, by the Christchurch Harbour Hotel.

"Being by the beach is a catch-22 as people go there in the day but then they do come here at night-time.

"We’re really friendly here, plus everyone knows me. I have been here all my life, I know the area and everyone.

"It’s lovely to be open again as Covid last year was a hell of a time for us to be going through. Being open is a bit of normality for us.

"For the future, we are hoping to expand our food trade and just smashing the business out the park."
