THIS image shows how a Grade II -listed Second World War bunker will be transformed into new holiday accommodation overlooking the Jurassic Coast near Weymouth.

As reported last week, the conversion scheme for the radar bunker at Ringstead won the approval of Dorset Council.

Planning consultancy Boyer and Lipton Plant Architects (LPA) have teamed up on the project to 'celebrate the bunker's significant history and retell its story as a lost historical ruin'.

Once part of the RAF Ringstead radar station, a 'glazed opening' will be created within the structure to let in light and reveal 'stunning coastal vistas'.

Ben Pope, Principal Planner at Boyer, said, “Restoring this bunker is a fantastic development for the history of the local area. It will provide a unique opportunity for keen historians from across the country to stay within the bunker and learn more about its wartime past.”

The bunker is off the Ringstead Dairy access road, partly hidden by trees, near Pitt Cottage.

It was used in conjunction with the RAF radar installations which looked out over the sea for enemy aircraft in association with RAF Warmwell, which provided a base for fighter pilots nearby.
