Bolts of lightning illuminated the sky as thunder bellowed across the county earlier today, Saturday, July 24.

The storm arrived after days of high temperatures, which prompted Met Office warnings for extreme heat.

Now, the Met Office has said that the heatwave will be replaced with thundery conditions for southern and central areas of England, with yellow weather warnings in force.

The weather warning, which runs until tomorrow, states that heavy rain and thunderstorms may lead to some disruption and flooding.

Although many of us were rudely awoken by the storm this morning, some used the weather to their advantage and captured some spectacular shots of the storm.
