It was reported that at around 2.25am on Wednesday, July 7, the victim – a young woman – was approached by a man as she walked along Charminster Road.
Dorset Police say the man then walked with the victim along Heron Court Road and it was reported that he made several attempts to kiss the woman before sexually assaulting her at an address.
A spokesman for Dorset Police has now confirmed: "Following enquiries, led by Dorset Police’s Major Crime Investigation Team, a 23-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted rape and is assisting detectives with their enquiries.
