THE car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang turned everybody’s head at the first wedding of a town centre church after lockdown.

Julie and Stuart Cain, who met at a branch of ScrewFix two years ago, were wed at St Peter’s Church in Bournemouth.

They were driven off in the famous vintage car from the 1968 children’s musical.

Julie and Stuart first met in September 2019 at a ScrewFix store in Ringwood, where Julie was working at the time.

Bournemouth Echo:

Stuart immediately fell in love with Julie’s "golden aura" and after visiting the store every day for a week, topping up on screws, he finally asked her on a romantic date to the beach.

The happy couple haven’t looked back since and on Leap Day in February last year – when women traditionally propose to their intended – Julie proposed to Stuart.

Julie, 55, who is from Ringwood said: “It was the first wedding to be held in St Peter’s Church since lockdown and we just had the most perfect day.

“We had Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as our wedding car and were driving around with everyone cheering us on and taking photos.

“Our reception was on the church grounds and it was all festival themed.

"It was just the most perfect day," she added.

The wedding ceremony took place last Saturday, July 3, and went without a glitch.

Not even the pandemic stood in their way, as the couple were the first to be wed in the grand surroundings of St Peter’s Church since lockdown restrictions were eased.

Bournemouth town centre parish team rector the Reverend Dr Ian Terry, who presided over the ceremony, said: “I very much enjoyed the pleasure and privilege of officiating at Stuart and Julie’s wedding at St Peter’s Church last Saturday.

“It has been a memorable week for me.

Bournemouth Echo:

“The previous weekend I celebrated the 40th anniversary of my ordination as a priest – with a special Communion Service, complete with cake and card, at St Peter’s, followed by a lunch in our garden for family, friends and other clergy.

"A great occasion!

“Then on Saturday it felt as though we were regaining joy and celebration at church with this fantastic wedding.

“We very much wish Julie and Stuart well in their future life together," he added.
