MORE business units on a Sherborne industrial site could be converted to homes.

Dorset Council has already approved an application for the conversion of two units on the Coldharbour Business Park into ten homes.

An application has been submitted this week for another five homes by converting existing offices.

The previous application for the site, for units 2A and 2B, was made by Branksome Estates Limited which said that no external changes would be made to the buildings.

A new application has now been submitted for the conversion of offices at unit 3, suite B, into homes.

It comes from Symonds and Sampson, acting on behalf of Micron Communications which is based at the unit. The company is asking for a ‘prior approval’ determination which seeks to assess if the proposed changes can be made without the need for full, detailed, planning consent.

The proposal has led to a resident in Granville Way, which faces the scheme, asking for consideration to be given to any new outside lighting. It says that a previous conversion has resulted in “unacceptable exterior lighting that disturbs us even from that distance away.”

Dorset highways have said it would have no objection to the change to the block which was approved in 1999.

The application says the proposal is for the existing offices to be converted into two 2-bed flats on the ground floor and three 1-bed flats on the first floor.

Comments on the application, ref 2021/02137, can be made online to Dorset Council until July 8th .
