FROM sunbathing to cycling, relaxing to exercising – Bournemouth’s Pleasure Gardens play a large part in the lives of the town’s residents.
In 1871 a competition to design the Lower Pleasure Garden took place and the winner was Philip Henry Tree.
One of the biggest changes to have taken place over the years was in the 1920s when the Square was laid out. The pavilion was built in the gardens at the same time.
Small waterfalls and large ornamental rock gardens were included along the park-facing side of the pavilion.
These are some of the pictures taken in the gardens over the years – more to come in Monday’s Bournemouth Echo.
