A BOURNEMOUTH branch of Santander is set to close later this month.

The bank in Wimborne Road, Winton, will shut for good on Thursday, July 22.

Santander announced the closure date for the Winton site alongside 74 other branches across the country.

Wimborne Road lost its Barclays branch last year, while HSBC is also set to depart next month.

In February, the freehold for the Santander premises was listed at auction with a guide price of £350,000 plus. It eventually sold for £450,000.

Auctioneers said that at the time the current lease expired in December 2025 and is let at £22,000 per annum.

According to Adam Bishop, head of branch interactions at Santander, the move to close the branches comes in response to less customers using branches.

He said: "Branch usage by customers has fallen considerably over recent years so we have made the difficult decision to consolidate our presence in areas where we have multiple branches relatively close together."

As reported, Barclays in Christchurch and New Milton will close on July 21 and July 22 respectively. In addition, the bank's Ferndown branch will shut its doors on July 28.
