A PUB that specialises in "approachable and affordable" Pan Asian gourmet food alongside classic pub grub has been crowned Pub of the Week.

Nestled in the bustling Christchurch High Street, The Ship on the Woks is a 15th century pub that boasts an extensive food and drink menu, as well as a large beer garden.

Following a refurbishment in the summer of 2020, the pub was redecorated and now offers Pan Asian and Thai food.

This, according to manager of three years Paula Cherrett, has been a big success.

She said: "The refurbishment came about after our chef left, and my boss decided that we would offer the same as The Ox in Ashley Cross.

"We now have lovely Thai chefs and people absolutely love the food.

"Our mission is to be approachable and offer affordable Pan Asian food and British pub grub. We have an extensive Pan Asian menu, and on the flip side we offer classics such as steak and fish and chips.

"We also have a specials board every week.We love pleasing our customers and regulars, and a lot of holidaymakers who used to visit the pub are delighted to be back after not being able to visit last year.

"Our spectacular food is what makes us special. People love our food and we receive really good reviews. Also, our service. I couldn't do it without our great team, who are all amazing. People just keep coming back.

The Ship's menu also features "phenomenal" sharing boards and plenty of starters.

Favourite items on the menu include the grilled sea bass, pad thai (served with prawns, chicken or vegetables), and a panang lamb shank curry.

"The lamb shank curry is my daughter's favourite and she always has it, it's beautiful," said Paula.

The Ship on the Woks is not short on a selection of drinks either, with a range of spirits, cocktails and a "wonderful wine selection" available, with three real ales also on at a time.
