A CANCER support centre is looking for a new home in Bournemouth due to redevelopment plans at their current site.

Wessex Cancer Trust say that their Bournemouth Support Centre, currently based at Fairview House in Hinton Road, is up for redevelopment and they are appealing to those with potential new premises.

The charity’s head of services Colette Cowan said: “We know this might be unsettling for Dorset residents who use the support centre, especially because we’re only just starting to welcome clients back for face-to-face care as Covid-19 restrictions continue to ease.

"Whilst moving will no doubt be a bit disruptive for some, we want to reassure you that we’re totally committed to the future of free and local cancer support for everyone who needs it in Dorset.

“The developers are helping to fund our move and the new premises – whether that’s a temporary place or our new forever home – and we see this as a great opportunity.”

Established in 1981 and celebrating its 40th birthday this year, the charity provides free and local support for anyone living with cancer in Hampshire, Dorset and the Isle of Wight.

Collette added: “Ideally, the new support centre will be close to where we are currently in Hinton Road. Top priorities are accessibility and a relaxing atmosphere. Ideally, it would be on the ground floor with access to some outdoor space.”

Steffi Colbert, centre manager, said: “There’s a saying that a home isn’t a place, it’s a feeling, and whilst we know moving can be unsettling, all of us who have worked so hard to create the calm and friendly atmosphere at Fairview House will make sure that continues.”
