WALKING from my home to the shop, I see the long grass shimmering and wildflowers beginning to pop up along areas now left unmown.
In part to help absorb atmospheric carbon, in part to help wildlife, this policy also gives our urban space a freer, more natural air. I’m pleased to see the council has changed its mowing policy.
One of the characteristic aspects of human nature is a need to assert ‘control’ over the world around us.
Whether tidying the room or mowing the lawn, seeking ‘order’ isn’t wrong, but it is ever demanding.
There are in any event, limits to our control, and sometimes we should perhaps let things loosen up just a little.
