A CHRISTCHURCH GP surgery has delivered more than 18,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine.

Highcliffe Medical Centre has reported it has reached the milestone of 10,000 first dose jabs along with a further 8,000 second doses

A first dose has been given to 87.5 per cent of the surgery's eligible population.

Almost 40 million people in the UK have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine - part of the biggest inoculation programme the country has ever launched.

With the aim of offering vaccines to as many adults as possible by summer, the government says the continued success of the vaccine programme is one of the four conditions needed for further easing of restrictions.

University Hospitals Dorset is also among some of the first in the world to provide a third, booster Covid vaccine.

Volunteers have signed up for a clinical trial which is also taking place in Southampton and Portsmouth.

The Cov-Boost study, backed by £19.3 million of government funding through the Vaccines Taskforce, is being led by University Hospital Southampton.
