A MISSING woman was airlifted to hospital after going missing on a walk.

Police had earlier issued an appeal for help in tracing the Wareham woman in her sixties who was reported missing in the early hours of yesterday morning.

A spokesman for Kimmeridge Coastguard said: "Kimmeridge CG team tasked this morning (Sunday) along with Swanage CRT to assist with a medi-vac of a missing Wareham person reported to police at the start of the day.

"Thankfully, the NPAS Police helicopter located the person across the reedbed covered meadows at the entrance to Wareham river.

"A stretcher carry out was undertaken by all assets on the ground back to the Dorset and Somerset Air ambulance.

"With the person safely off to hospital by air all teams returned to station.

"A great multi-agency response involving ambulance, Dorset Search and Rescue, police, air ambulance, police helicopter and CG teams. We wish the person a speedy recovery."

Poole RNLI volunteers also attended the incident.
