JOIN the Daily Echo on a trip back to 1989 with the help of these pictures.

Although much has changed in the 32 years since the photographs were taken, many of the locations are instantly recognisable.

Tucktonia, Christchurch

Every child growing up in the area in the 1970s and early 1980s will have fond memories of Tucktonia.

from Stonehenge to the Houses of Parliament, and from rural pubs to Tower Bridge –the model village contained more than 200 models of British locales and establishments.

It was opened in May 1976, by screen and stage favourite Arthur Askey.

In the 1980s, it changed hands several times, and in 1985, plans were approved for a £10million housing and leisure complex at the site.

In October 1986 the amusement park closed for the last time.

This picture was taken when the housing estate started taking shape on the old site.

Sovereign Centre, Boscombe

In an attempt to spark new life into the shopping scene of Boscombe, the area of Christchurch Road between Palmerston Road and Ashley Road was pedestrianised and the Sovereign shopping centre opened in 1990.

The opening of the Sovereign Centre was a major boost for the area, although many of its big-name stores have departed in the years since.

Stores such as Safeway disappeared completely, and then Marks and Spencer transferred to Castlepoint when it opened in 2003.

This picture was taken in 1989 when The Sovereign Centre was being built.

Tower Park, Poole

With leisure facilities as well as retail outlets, Tower Park was one of the first developments of its kind in Europe.

The park opened in 1989 and brought with it a raft of new leisure venues.

There was a 10-screen UCI cinema, a 30-lane Megabowl bowling alley and Ice Trax skating rink.

There was also Splashdown, a water park covering 47,000sqft and whose longest flume ride was 400ft.

And then there was the Venue, a £3million superclub which went on to host top DJs of the time including Steve Wright and Bruno Brookes, as well as the up-and-coming band Take That.

This picture was taken shortly before the opening of Tower Park in 1989.
